    Default I am hooked!

Well, after trouble with my first straight razor (returned), i went ahead and got a smoking Dovo Bergischer Löwe (shave ready from classicedge.ca) and a factory Gold dollar 208 for practice honing and stropping. the Dovo came super sharp and i managed 3 shaves with it already…pretty comfortable on the cheeks and stash, but still getting used to chin and neck… i now have a new found respect for the spanish point after a minor nick on my ear lobe

Tried my old norton 220/1k 4k/8k stones (used for knifes) on the Gold dollar - managed to put a decent edge on it after a few practice sessions

A few days after showing the gold dollar to my friend - he gave me an old Shumate Barber - a gift he received but never used because it was dull. I tried my new honing skills on it and man, did it take an awesome edge… tree-topping my hairy arms was like a hot knife going through butter… i returned the razor with a fun little message - ala samurai sword ceremony from kill bill

Thanks all for your help - i found the resources here to be truly amazing.
I am guessing this is not going to be the last SR i sharpen… to the Bay of E!

    Welcome to the forum.

That dovo is a good looking blade.

There are a couple of guys in your area that are great resources. Make use of them as you please.

    Hi and welcome to SRP!

As has been said, there are some good guys down in your part of the world. Keep an eye out for any meetups that may happen in the TO area in this part of the forum: Get Togethers and Meetings Not only will you learn a ton, you'll also meet some pretty good folks.

Also, you may have come across this while reading the forum, but just in case... if you ever get a hankering to clean that Dovo, don't go anywhere near it with metal polish! It will wheech that gold wash away faster than you can imagine.

Finally, since you're a fellow fountain pen user, you might like this: http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...pen-users.html

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

thanks for the tips on the meet up forum and fountain pen forum... would be great if a bunch of guys converged on a Tim's with their straight razors ... that would make for a memorable scene
