    Default my latest project

I still have to put the finishing touches on this but it has been fun.

It has taken longer than I thought. I origionally figured an hour to put on some new leather. Now it is time to go to bed but thought I would post pictures anyway.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I have decided if I ever try to sell anything I need to hire a photographer.

The following is what I ended up with....

I had nothing that matched the original colors closely so with the influence of my wife I decided to go with contrast.

The square with the hole in the middle is the origional piece of paper product that was used to cover the ends. I had this green left over from a razor coffin project so I decided to use that. I used rubber cement so if I change my mind it should be not to hard to remove.

This is the lighter side hone that without using it seem courser. Has anyone experienced this type before? When I went to lap it I startedd with dry paper and it filled up fairly quickly with swarf. I rinsed the paper off and removed it quick. Then when I used the wet paper to lap some more it turned into a slurry very quickly and lapped fast. I dried the hone very quickly worrying that it might be water soluble.... After 24 hours it seems fine.

Should I ask this in the hone section?

This darker side seems finer and after lapping it shows a few fine cracks that I didn't notice before. Both sides showed a crack at the thin area of the wood at the handle end where it would flex. I think they were probably there but just exposed them.

    A dark overall view.

I hope this makes sense and appreciate any feedback and comments.

    Tim
