    Rez -

how do you use an engravers block in your scale design? As a vice to keep the scales stabilized?

I do all my shaping on a belt sander. Virtually no hand-sanding whatsoever. I rough shape with 120 grit and by the time i move through the finer grits i stop at 600 or 800 with a finished shape. Then off to the buffer to remove the fine scratches and apply a final polish.

It is simply how I hold my scales while shaping. It’s heavy enough it stays put and I can hold 1/3 of the scale and work the other 2/3 then flip over and repeat. I find the scraper leaves not much sanding. It is after all what was used before sandpaper.

Yesterdays get. Two wostemholm IXL re-scales. One quarter hollow IXL rockingham works in streaked horn. And the other near wedge IXL washington works in standard black horn.

Honing both up today while watching some football.

This will be our second apartment together. Been in this one since shortly after we got married. Before that though I've moved so many OTHER people I'm burnt out on it. We are going to get some help this time with the heavy lifting.
Had to carry a large sofa, heavy coffee table, and other similar stuff up the stairs BY MYSELF since my family is out of state. Not doing that again.

Dang Joshua! Ya gotta be careful, you are the productive core of your family.. The engine.. I hurt my back a while ago and was lucky to have income options.
A buddy just got a job with a moving company...
I laughed at him, and then realized he was serious!
