You got a good start going. Rez is so right about the devil spit. If you work on the spots more to get rid of them you will most likely find pitting. Go up to 400 and see what happens. I recommend one blade at a time. You will see/find progress faster and that helps you to keep going. Good luck. Those blades ha e some great shapes.

If it is fairly shallow I'll try to get it out. Is it the kind of thing you definitely need to remove (will it get worse over time)? While I do want to shine this razor up, I don't want to remove too much metal to get there. It should take a good bevel and be great shaver again someday, and that's my main focus.

It will very slowly grow over time but you can mitigate that with wax, or VCI products and simply caring for it. I do not get all worked up over a few dark spots anymore. It is part of being very old.

Brought out the scroll saw and belt sander today and got these scales cut out and basic shaping. Now I can spend some time tonight hand sanding. Haven't decided on wedge material just yet. Something to think about I guess while sanding tonight.

However in more recent restoration I have take a few very aggressively down with low grit, and I feel that those ones had less distortion. Also those black spots are oxidization also. If you can get enough elbow grease on them the do work out with WD-40 and steel wool, and then they leave little pits. It is so,times referred to as devils spit. Sometimes it runs crazy deep. There is no telling where it goes under the surface. Be sure to use a good backer on your sand paper and be mindful not to remove the line and definitions while sanding. The backer will reduce distortion, along with long strokes. I find a cork cut lengthwise as a backer helps me get that edge along the spine and blade intersection.

Got this locally today with some razors. Closest I found doing a search was called a 'travel strop box'. Did this probably have leather on it originally?

I would expect that the cover had leather on it. Was it a razor and strop box combo? I have a similar one that has what looks like glue reminants on the lid. Some day it will get restored.

Red is Acrylic. A gift from a member here. It very soft as I found out the hard way. I've been sanding and the pivot end is getting thinner. I'd rather have the width or a touch more than the tang of the razor, but its pushing that now. I'm up to 1500grit paper on it now. Got both the wood scales sanded to 400 and now doing the Glen CA coating on the insides and pin holes. Will get back to those tomorrow.

The razor you got looks like a project for sure. And the strop box? A nice find. I bet it had leather and maybe even a soft backer too originally.

No idea if they were a combo. It was in the box when I bought it with some other razors. Razor needs work and scales are delaminated some, but I like the look of them and hope I can keep it original. I'm not going to do any heavy sanding over the etching of the basket of wheat. For now I'll oil it and put it with the "tadoos".

Here are the Red Acrylic scales. Ready for the blade in the morning. Had too many beers to be using a hammer. Ha.
They are more a reddish brown with streaks. I do like this stuff. I might have to find out where he got it and get some more. A LOT easier than the many coats of finish needed on wood scales. Guess this actually looks a bit orange.



Sanded up to 2500 then Rubbing compound, then some kitchen wax. (The Outback secrete). Oops, Maybe I should have let that one slip out. Ha.

Damn this beer is tasting good.

OH, I still haven't figured on a Wedge material yet. They will need a touch-up after the wedge fitting. A touch of shaping and then they should be good to go for the stone.
