Thread: Should I remove blade after use?

I just got a new feather AS and I have a quick question. Should I remove the blade after use? If so where should I leave it? Thanks y'all!

LOL I was just about to post this EXACT same topic! I was chatting with a guy this morning who says leaving it in the razor after shaving reduces blade life (moisture etc)

What say all ye shaving G-ds?!

No there's no need to remove the blade after use, just rinse the razor , shake off the water and you are good to go.

The blade must be really dry, but it doesn't matter where it is kept.

My DE is a late 40's Aristocrat which I dearly love. When I do use the razor and am finished shaving, I open the razor, remove the blade and turn it over setting it on a towel while I shake the razor fairly dry, then holding the blade by the end I flick it with my finger a couple of time leaving it nearly dry, re-insert in razor for the next time. All very subjective as are most things with razors be they DE or straight. I started doing that when you could still purchase "Fat Boys" in the local store.

Just noticed your custom user title...so are you saying that by using disposable blades in your Feather AS you are in fact a disposable man? I'm joking of course as I have seen pictures of your real razors and they are impressive. On a side note, I use a DE when time is short, but I just leave the blade in with no apparent issues of blade longevity and replace the blade every 3 or 4 shaves with it.

It was a saying my great grand father used, he was an avid straight razor shaver! =]

Gentlemen,
Since I use my double edge razors about once a week, and when short on time, I usually take the blade out, rinse the razor thoroughly, dry it, and put it in the rack. I also give the blade a gentle rinse, pat it dry, and put it away in a safe place. I do this especially with my Feather stainless steel. I just don't trust steel around water.

I think the general rule is if you use a DE daily or a few times a week there's no need to remove the blade as there won't be enough time between shaves for any noticeable corrosion to take place. However, if you are storing your razor for longer periods of time it would be a good idea to take the blade out, dry it and store it elsewhere.
