Thread: Should I remove blade after use?

Hi Guys, I have been using DE razors for a long time now. I have found that if I take the blade out and keep the blade dry, the blade usually gives me an extra day of shaving. The blade also stays sharper. I started taking the blade out of the razor, and wiping the water from the interior of the DE razor keeps the razor in better shape. I would suggest taking the blade out and drying the blade and the razor. If you choose you can then put the blade back in the razor.

In 18 months of DE shaving the only time I have taken the blade out has been to bin it. About 4 months ago I decided to only use each blade for 2 shaves. I haven't had a bad or irritated shave since. I shave with my DE daily so have no issues with corrosion.

In over 40 yrs of using DEs, the only time I have ever removed one is to throw it out.

Unless you are using an uncoated carbon steel blade it should be fine to just finish shaving, rinse and leave the razor out to dry. The only carbon blade I know of is a Treet Carbon (a black or dark blue blade). I have a DE with a blade that has been in it for weeks and last time I used it, it was fine.

There are some question about the life of the blades in in the new blades. In my experience, I can get atleast one extra shave out of a blade when I take it out and dry it.

If you have many DE razors in different styles that means to many blades abandoned in your closet
The rotation is big so some blades are left maybe a little dirty or wet
I put my DE after the shaving to hot water,rinse it and finally "plunge" to a small bowl with 95 alcohol and store it till next time
With this method only once i mention corrosion with an Asco blade.

i always remove the blade on my DE's. i rinse the razor components and the blade with hot water and dry everything well. Only takes two or three minutes and will save you from getting rust or build up on razor and prolong the blades. Keep them in their waxed paper that they come in.

I only take my blades out when I'm replacing them, I only use my de when I am in a rush and have to shave at work

Like others have said, if you are leaving it in an extended time, then you might want to remove it or do the alcohol dip trick.

I remove mine after each shave. I then wipe the razor clean, dry off the blade and then re assemble the razor and the blade. I know its probably not necessary but I like keeping the razor clean when not in use and it only takes a few extra minutes.
