    Default OK, Im hooked!

I just finished my first DE shave, and let me tell you what...this is what I have been longing for! I took the advice I received here, watched a bunch of videos, practiced my technique sans blade and took my time prepping. Took a nice cool shower, softened my 3 day beard with conditioner during the shower, hot towel for 3-4 minutes, apply my shave cream and begin. First pass was a little unnerving but satisfying. After I reduced my beard using WTG strokes I reapplied my cream and finished with XTG. My wife walked in to find me with blood all over my face and neck and expressed concern. I quickly proved her wrong when I told her to feel my face, THIS IS THE CLOSEST SHAVE I HAVE EVER HAD! I am using CVS brand blades for now and found it to be a vast improvement over my old cartridges. I can see how you fanatics become so! I am looking forward to getting a blade sampler and trying some different soaps/creams to really improve my shave.

I can enjoy this, shaving is no longer a chore I dispise.

    Congratulations!

In time, with practice, you won't even bleed all that often. Something to look forward to. I've heard the CVS brand blades have some quality control issues, so I would definitely splurge for the sampler pack. I highly recommend Personna blades to the new crowd. I find them to be very comfortable. As usual, though, YMMV.

If you think it's good now just wait until you get your blade sampler and new soaps/creams - that's where the fun begins!

Welcome to the world of AD's......

I second the Personna blades!! Very nice. Sharp and smooth. With a DE I have gotten to where I don't do much prep, such as shower, pre-wet, etc. I'm lucky to just wet my face down with hot wash rag, swirl up some lather in my shaving mug and go in little circles on my face with the brush and when it's done, start shaving. I very seldom even have a cut or nick, nor weepers. DE is quite a nice shave and can be very comfortable and quite close.

Thanx guys! The shave last night was very smooth, with all the niks and weepers being from the razor bumps left over from my previous shave. I only managed to nik my self from poor form twice that I knew of, once on my upper lip and another below my sideburn. I knew I should of waited for the burn to completely go away, but just got a little over zealous.

I doubt I will ever get quick with DE shaving mostly because I shower in the evenings and like to take my time, its my time to unwind from the day. I haven't ordered a blade sample pack yet, but was wondering if anyplace sells a sample kit with soaps/creams? I am really looking forward to enjoying my shave once I find the perfect combination.

I greatly appreciate the advice I receive here, and will for sure post my questions and updates.

This guy sell samples: Garry's Sample Shop

I've never ordered from him myself, but word around the campfire is he's reliable. Welcome to the hobby!
