Default More agressive than Edwin Jagger suggestions please

    Gentlemens:

I bought my first DE couple weeks ago it's a Edwin Jagger DE89BA11 Barley chrome with Feathers blades and I love it, it's very mild(forgiving). I'm looking for something a bit more agressive.

I was looking at vintage adjustable razor but is there some non-adjustable razor that is more agressive? Any suggestions, help would be welcome...

    Thanks
    Dominic

    Hello, Dominic:

I find the Merkur 38C "Barber Pole" and the 34C HD a touch more aggressive than the Edwin Jagger razors. You might want to consider them. Or find a Gillette Superspeed "Red Tip" for an aggressive feel.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Thanks alot Obie,

I just won a clean Gillette slim adjustable on Ebay I'll try to find a red tip later. I will keep the Merkurs in consideration. Heard some good things about Merkurs.

    Thanks
    Dominic

    Hello, Dominic:

You are very welcome. By the way, the Gillette slim adjustable is highly regarded.

For a very aggressive vintage d/e. I would choose a Barbasol ( if you can find one). Also the Gillette old style seem pretty aggressive. The most aggression I've ever experienced was a futur cranked all the way up.

I suppose you could skip out on the intermediates and get a Merkur Slant. You probably won't be asking for a more aggressive razor after that.....

    DOOM<

+1 on Dllandrys' suggestion of a GEM/Ever-Ready SE razor.

The 1912 pattern, for me, is the best shaving safety razor I have ever used (paired with GEM PTFE Coated stainless blades).

The GEM/Ever-Readys seem to cost far less than other vintage razors, and the 1912 with its 'Deco' handle is very nice to look at !

They also seem to have a unique combination of 'aggressive' yet 'forgiving' !

The GEM Micromatic Open Comb is also well worth a look

    Have fun !

    Best regards

An adjustable like a Gillette Fatboy though not considered to be that aggressive when you crank down the adjustment it can be mighty aggressive.

Merkur Futur. Its got a lot of heft and a large head that requires a little tweaking of technique but you can adjust to your preferred level of aggression. I'd rate the EJ head about 3 on the Futur scale which goes to 6.
