    Default Safety Razor Hone/Strop...

Has anyone ever used one of these to keep their DE blades nice and fresh. I ask because a few days a week I shave at the gym with my DE and am constantly replacing blades. I switched to DE and straights because I wanted to try to save a little $ on my daily shaving (this is before I caught RAD). I was thinking about getting something like this to freshen up a blade before I left for the gym. Any thoughts? Would I just be wasting my hard earned cash?

I would say it is a waste of money. I admit I've never tried one but none of those gizmos ever had any success as far as I know.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

You could get a Single Edge razor with several blades that get honed and stropped as a straight - on a, say, Belgian hone and some leather

I heard that in the old days some people used to hone their blades on the inside of a glass. You press the blade one the inside of the glass the edge perpendicular to the bottom and go back and forth for a while.

    Haven't tried it.

Thanks for the feedback. I've heard of using a class to hone DE blades. I think I'll do a little research and give that a try. Anyone out there tired it yet?

That was back in the day when the DE blades could get honed/stropped but they lasted a lot shorter. No good with todays blades...

Since you can get over 300 DE blades for the price of the Strop I wouldn't worry about it to much

Conversly(spelling??) I sometimes use a very small super soft DE/SE strop to strop my straight razors.
I works really well, it looks and feels like kid-leather it is so soft, but short enough to be pulled perfectly flat.
If I ever find a big piece I am going to make a padle strop with the piece.
