Ok, picked this razor up at an antique store today and I'm not sure of the model of it. It's a gillette, and has a patent number, but no model number on it. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated

That is the Gillette Super Speed flare tip, probably from the late 50s or the early 60s. Those are sweet razors. Good choice.

That's a Flare Tip SuperSpeed, but more importantly it's what's called a TV SuperSpeed. These were only available for purchase through TV ads. They're essentially the same as a 'regular' SuperSpeed, but have different knurling. I believe they were only made in 1958.
They're mild, but shave well - especially with a really sharp blade (like a Feather).
Gillette SS Flare Tip as has been said...don't know about the TV deal. BUT, under the head of the razor (where it says Gillette, etc.) there will be a letter on one side and a number opposite it. That is the date code. The letter stands for the year, and the number stands for the quarter of that year. Post up the letter number and we can tell you when it was made.

Anyway, given that the TV SS's were only available in 1958, it should be a D1.

Ok. Thanks very much guys, I picked it up for $14 at an antique store, and if the SWMBO doesn't requisition it, it will be mine for a while :) I appreciate all the response and will let you know how it shaves in a day or so, gotta give it some beard to shave off.
