    Default DORCO BLADES

Hello friends i would like to know your opinion about dorco blades, i live in mexico in the Yucatan peninsula, the only blades i can get here at some Korean shop are this brand dorco. I used todaytwith my Merkur Barber Pole DE safety razor but i did only one pass with the grain. It was ok but i had not the confidence tu used against the grain, whats your advise on this.

By the way last month i went to florida and i bought some Merkur blades at the Aventura Mall but i havent used yet, what you think?

    Hello, xe3vw:

    Welcome to Straight Razor Place.

I have both the Korean made Dorco 300 and Dorco 301 series. The Dorcos are mild but smooth blades and of good quality.

    Regards,

    Obie

Dorco are not as sharp as feather blades but are far more forgiving. They give a very smooth shave.

Hi xe3vw, welcome to SRP. I only shaved with dorco blades a few times and I didn't like them. I do like Merkur blades but a lot of guys don't. If you can locate an internet source for a blade sampler pack, where you can try out a variety of brands, that is your best bet. For me the Feather and the Gillette Swede were the best DE blades. Even better, get a good pro honed straight razor.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

There are two different Dorco blades. The Dorco 301 seems to be better than the Dorco 300. Reviews (for what they're worth):

I agree with a previous post:

. . . Try to get some Feather blades -- they are _really sharp_.

With Feather blades, use _no pressure_ when you shave.

Thanks for your opinions. I must say that i have two straight razors: both are Boker, one is a King Cutter while the oter is a edelweiss. But im just in the process of learning so i only shave my cheeks with them thats why im shaving with a DE. I have tried with blades like Derby, Gillette (the red ones) shark, merkur and dorco. Now im gonna get thru internet some feather and the other Gilletts. iŽd also like to say that im very happy to be here at this forum and happier to had left behind the electric razor (i have used for years a braun electric razor) so surely you will hear about me again and again asking question and more questions. Glad to learn that there are always people like you trying to hel begineers as me. Thanks again

From my own experience the 301s were better

I thought they were on the rough side. One of the few blades I really didn't like.

    Hello, thebigspendur:

My experience with the Dorcos has been positive. Yes, of course, they are mild blades, but I have always found them smooth. There have been conversations about whether the 300 and 301 are the same. Some believe they are and some don't. For me, the 301 Dorcos are a touch sharper and smoother. But then it all goes back to personal preference. I bought my Dorcos a few years back and still have a few left in my stash. I use them occasionally for a change of pace.

    Stay well.

I only have experience of one Dorco blade, so I'll be charitable and call it a rogue. The worst ever, bar none. My rule is one rogue and you're out, so they haven't had an encore; received opinion however is that the 301s are decidedly superior to the 300s.
