Yes, I've got a bunch of those 1912's, they are really nice. I've also got one of the "lather catcher" ones from aprox 1908, those are pretty cool as well

I couldn't see any other post that had mentioned this:

Razor 1 is a GIllette Slim adjustable
Razor 2 is a Fatboy Adjustable
Razor 3 is a Gem Micromatic

I guess you figured some of this out already, but I thought it couldn't hurt to make sure.

The adjustables change the blade exposure from 1 to 9 (9 being the most aggressive). Choice of blade will make a pretty big difference with these razors. Your best bet would be to get a sampler pack from West Coast Shaving or another vendor.

The OC MM is a pretty aggressive shaver. You need decent blades (Ted Pellas, or Gem Blue Star blades), but given that it will shave excellently. I love SE razors.

Yep, I love the Lather Catchers too. Light razors, but still a nice shave.

The best of the SE razors for me was the EverReady Streamline. It has a nice heft to it, and the build quality is excellent. Shaves wonderfully.

EDIT: I misread your previous post - I thought you were calling that razor a MM, but you were not - sorry about that. I also like the safety bar MM's.

The safety bar MM is a really great razor, before I started with straights, SE razors were (and still are) favorites (Gem, EverReady and injectors)

Thanks for the extra info on the razors guys. I did discover the adjuster function on the Gillettes, as well as the fact that the slim is a slim and not a Fatboy...though there are several slims listed on the bay as fatboys.

I got some nice shaves with the Fatboy (haven't used the slim yet) and a couple with the GEM thanks to Rod hooking me up with some of his SE blades. But then my straights came back from honing, so for the last two days I've used one of them. Now I have too many razors (HA) and can't grow facial hair fast enough! I will definitely keep the DE's and SE around for a while as it is nice to have a razor I can just drop a blade in and go. Some guys might keep their old Mach 3 or Hydro around, but after using these razors the shave is significantly better and the irritation has gone down well below the Hydro's performance (and I liked it a WHOLE lot better than the Mach 3).

I'd like to see some pics of a "lather catcher." I did run into an issue with gunk build up (soap and stubble) under the DE blade on the Gillette. Any tips on preventing that? When it dries it's hard like the soap puck...effectively clogging the razor and requiring a new blade.

BigJim, I don't know what blades you're using but I discovered today that my local Walmart stocks Wilkinson Sword blades. 10 for $1.76. I shave a lot with a Shavette so I'm always on the lookout for blades to try. I've mostly been using the Israeli Personna blades from Sally (or CVS/Rite Aid but cheaper at Sally). The Wilkinson sword blades definitely gave me a different shave. I got a few more weepers than usual but less irritation.

B- The Wilk's are exactly what I'm using. I picked up the safeties at a nearby antique shop, and grabbed the first DE blades I found that would work (found one pack that was too wide...not sure what they're for), but found the Wilk's at Wally-World.

I was happy with them...though my face was uncomfortable immediately after the shave (I assume because of needing to adjust from cartridge shaving) the discomfort went away within about an hour. Thanks though.

One must respect the lather catcher!! LOL!!

Once you get past the fact that blade is just sitting there on top, it's not that bad. It looks worse than it actually is
