Through them in the walls. Thats what they used to do lol. My old house, my parents house, and my grandmothers houses are all old. Neither of them under 125yo. Ive remodeled bathrooms in all three. All the medicine cabinets have slots in the back. I bet ive picked up thousands of blades from the wall studs. Ive never seen the blade banks and think they are a great idea.

this is why i like the blades that come in the little plastic dispencer with the used blade slot in the back....of course this isn't a permenant solution, but I got a hammer and anvil, might end up making the first pattern welded razor blade damascus knife on the block...in about 20 years or so

    Mick,
I love your thread. I've ordered the Merkur Futur from himage a few weeks ago but the wife has it all hidden away for my birthday. Like you it's my first introduction to the world of double edge shaving. I still love my straights but hopefully the DE will make it much easier to travel without taking my bathroom along with me.

One of the things at the back of my mind was always where the hell am i going to put the old blades. I love what you did with Andy's soup can idea. It's inspiring me to get some paint onto a tin myself. Might play with Victor's sailing ship theme.

By the way, how is your 34C Heavy Duty going for you? I'm looking forward do trying out the Futur to be able to change the angle and exposure of the blade. At least until I know what degree of blade is best suited for me.

    Legion,
Great piggy bank! How'd you come across such an Icon.

G'day Huey, I love the Merkur HD...Not with the same love I have for my cut-throats, but a strong love all the same. I have found a few different blades that give excellant shaves and no irritation. Astra, Treets and Personna Reds (Thanks Legion) are all great blades, with my favour falling on the Treets. Feathers are next and last (Maybe) to try. I've found three great blades and that should really do for choice, but I've heard a deal about Feathers, so I reckon I have to try them too. I hope you like the Futur..When you eventually get to try it.

Yeah I'm really keen to give the Futur a go. While i've been waiting I've had a long hard look at technique which has given me a bit of time before i get all excited with my new 'toy'.

I recieved some Feather and Derby blades with the razor from himage.com bought a largely overpriced pack of Astra premiums from a tobacco stand at the shops. I'm going to see how these treat me before doubling up with a sampler pack.

I'm not looking at DE shaving full time, so it may take me quite some time to get through these 3 packs of blades. I only started looking in to it because I didn't want to risk damaging my cut-throat paraphernalia at work

I've just loaded my HD with a feather blade. will try it maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. Bit crook at the moment so maybe tomorrow, got a 'flu so feel weak and light headed. Not the best way to be and be putting an open blade to the thoat.

I didn't like the Derby blades, they irritated my skin.

I like the Astra blades and they are on my shortlist of a bulk purchase. Treets are ahead of them on my list, but I plan on a re-visit all shortlisted blades to settle on a final favourite.

It has taken me several months to get to this point for the same reason. I prefer my cut-throats...I wonder if I should have bought a slant blade HD instead, but I took the advice that in-experienced people should stay away. In-experienced at what?! Certainly if you've been using a Cut-throat razor for some time I would say you are Experienced...But this is all subjective as I have not had a chance to try out a Slant. I will one day though.

Thanks for the tips Mick. Hope you feel better soon.

Anyhow, back on the topic of disposal. You got me thinking with the tin can idea and I remember seeing a particular type of money box at $2 shops with Aussie money notes printed on the side. I wasn't too sure how small they were made because I could only remember the Milo tin size ones, but I found the perfect size to keep hidden away. The slot in the top is a good size too. Better too large than too short i suppose.

I picked this one up this arvo for 2 bucks. Here are a few photos of my iconically Australian Razor disposal tin. I had to dig around to find the $100 note amongst all the fives and twentys. I especially love Sir John Monash's killer moustache.

And to top it all off it's made in China

I forgot to add it's fully sealed, so as long as some tricky bastard at the Tip doesn't think it's full of coins, they won't be coming out of the tin to cause any harm.

Just some food for thought, but instead of emptying out a tin, maybe you can just slap some paint on one of these instead for only $2.

    Cheers

Love that tin, she's a beauty. For my $2 though, I got tomato soup, and next time (if there is a next time, my tin is huge.) I might even use the soup... .

When it comes time to throw the tin, just seal the slot at the top with a little bit of selective hammer strokes or two part epoxy glue on a bit of plastic ice cream lid over the slot and send it off in the recycle bin.

My Wife picked me up a Coin Bank to use. It's based on a Danish mail box. There is no key but it is fairly easy to "pick" the lock and empty if needed. She picked it up for 76 cents.
