I'd definitely say get an Alum block. That stuff's been around for thousands of years for a reason. But the alum is what's going to help you after your shave.... if you nick yourself and to help...

I would try conditioning your skin a product containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. I prefer Aveeno daily moisturizer with 0.5% Salicylic Acid... but that's because I have sensitive skin...
