You're right. You looked much more closely than I did, but the edge on view is a dead giveaway that the edge is not in optimal condition.

With those photos, I can't see the bevel, much less any chips.

Ask them HOW they honed it. Specifically, ask if they used any sort of moving wheel or if they used flat hones. If the former, ask for your money back. If the latter, ask them what kind they used....
