The stabilizer is the machined reinforcement shoulder between the spine and edge at the shank. A Henckels Friodur 70 1/2 has a stabilizer and the Friodur 50 1/2 is made without a stabilizer.

I had this problem. What worked for me is very light pressure on the strop, weight of the blade only. Try to envision the razor moving back and forth on its own with just its own weight evenly...
