Cool Nichiri Co. Yaichi frameback (6/8+)

A Nichiri Co. Yaichi frameback straight razor in white pearlescent scales. Stamped “Swedish Steel Special Made.” Blade hovers halfway between 6/8 and 13/16 in size. Double jimping. Nice, even bevel with minimal honewear. Blades sits centered and tightly in the scales, which are in excellent shape. I have done zero cleaning to this razor preferring the light patina. A bit of metal polish would really make this razor shine if that’s your thing.

Honed up on a Naniwa SS 3-5-8-10-12 progression after Chosera 1k bevel set. Finished up on the super smooth Suehiro Gokumyo 20k. A few passes on a CeOx board strop then stropped up nicely on an SRD Premium #1.

If you’ve been considering the purchase of a vintage Japanese frameback, this one is a great example.

Asking $80 plus shipping. Thanks for looking!

    Hey Mark! Great looking razor!

So help me out, this is a Japanese razor using Swedish steel? So is it like a Heljestrand? I’ve got 3 Heljestrand‘s and love the steel. Love em.

The vintage Japanese razor makers preferred harder steels, so Swedish Steel was very popular among many of their early western razor makers. However, since I’ve never tried a Heljestrand, I can make no comparisons.

Possibly Stefan (mainaman) has some experience in this regard or Jamie (celticcrusader).

I just know in terms of honing, this steel is definitely harder than the Solingen steel I first tried.

How wide is the tang, same width as the spine or narrower?

    Cheers, Steve

Much narrower, Steve, like any other traditionally ground razor.

Spine is about 6mm thick above blade and just over 3mm around the jimping. Narrows further as you reach the tip of the tail like any other blade.

Japanese framebacks are normally amazing shavers, Nichiri brand is also a great one.. i have no doubts this is a great razor!

like some of us always say.... "There's no such thing as a bad Japanese frameback razor"...
