    Default A question about hones

Greetings all. I am hoping someone with knowledge about hones can answer this.

I have a Aloxite #200 barber hone. With it and my strop, I am getting just about BBS close shaves when running my hand WTG.

The question, would a Norton 4k/8k hone be a worthwhile addition or is the Aloxite hone good enough?

As a newbie I know that my technique is the biggest part of the closeness equation and it is definately getting better. But would it help if I got the Norton hone?

    Thanks,
    ~Robert

The norton would be good for razors that are not sharp and need sharpening. Your razor is already sharp but may need the occasional touch up and the barber hone should be fine. If you start collecting and restoration work you will need something like the nortons.

    Nun2sharp:

Thanks for the reply. How about paste-would that be a good thing to get or is that also used for dull razors?

    Thanks again.

The green chrome ox paste will definately enhance the blade of a shave ready razor, just started using chrome ox myself after my friend Hi_bud_gl introduced me to it. Try it, if you like it keep using it.
