    Default Naniwa 12000 ruined?

I have a naniwa 12000, had it for about 2 years and still razors nicely but it has developed stains and smells like mildew. I treat all my stones the same, use them, wipe them off, let them dry and then store them in a plastic container in the plastic bubble sleeves they came in. This is the only one that has this problem. Is this infact mildew from not letting it dry completely or storing it in the box?Name: 20180814_164645.jpg

I don’t know for sure but get them out of that box. It’s only natural that a porous surface is retaining moisture and is being trapped in the box. I actually store mine with silica gel to avoid this.

Thank you, I actually have some silica packs to keep my razors from rusting.

I doubt the stone is ruined even if it smells objectionable. Unless it’s not cutting correctly it’s probably fine. But it’s probably mold you’re looking at. Don’t try to kill it with anything. You’d be surprised what breaks down the binders of synthetic stones.

I'd probably lap it and see if that helps. Make sure that they dry at least overnight if you put them in the cardboard box, if not dry you can definitely get mildew (don't ask me how I know lol), and too much moisture in the drawer, cabinet, etc can be bad for orher stuff in there with the damp stone.

    Cheers, Steve

Yeah, Ive lapped it several time, it doesn't help, its in there good. I took all the stones out of the protective sleeves, arranges them in the box so max air could get to them, and put the box out on an open shelf. Lesson learned I suppose, let them dry better, store them out in the open. Probably pick up a new 12000.

it wont effect the stone, their not supposed to be pretty just work. I would imagine once you start drying it the right way itll clear up, mildew doesn't like sunlight Tc

If you decide it a lost cause after drying it out you can send it to me for testing with bleach.

    I will pay the shipping.
