Default A fist full of razors, W&B, Mappins, Dovos O my!

Been a busy couple of weeks. I finished up a couple Mappins and a couple of W&B’s for a SRP member. The blades were pretty pitted and stained. I have them a sanding and polish. The blades are still not perfect but much better than they started. The owner did not mind if they had a little character. I did one in Olive, one in Brazil Walnut, Cherry, and Cocobolo. He also had a bit meat cleaver W&B that had decent original scales but the pivot pin had broken. I salvaged the original washers, buffed the old horn out and repined it using the original hardware. I took great care to replicate the exact style of pinning. You cant tell which is 100 years old and which is new. I also dropped a fist full of Dovo’s into some buffalo scales. Wish I could keep a few of these.

You did an amazing job on those razors, they are beautiful! I'd love to have that W&B chopper.

Which finish? The blades got a sanding progression from 320 to 2000 grit then a buffing progression with a heavy compound, light compound, white rogue and polish. The scales are epoxy resin (bar top) finish. Pins are made from 1/16 brass rod stock that I peen like mini rivets. I use stainless bearings on blades and the pin washers are a stainless with a brass over it with the penned rod over it. The silver outer ring with the brass looks balanced to my eye verses a stainless with a brass core. This gives it a small 3-D stair step appearance.

They had some wicked hone ware, one looked like someone hit it with a bench grinder. It took a lot of sanding to get most of it out and a few hours on each blade to hone them but they took a good edge.

I did a bunch of Dovo’s in horn for someone as well, and another fist full of restores. Over a dozen razors in the past two weeks, I have another dozen plus in the works.

Beautiful work ! If I ever get one I want restored to that extent I will see if you are still accepting new jobs.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
