Of course, but I kept my blade dry at the beginning too when I wasn't using it. The first spots appeared literally the second I ran it under a tap. So I am just having a hard time trying to work out why the started accumulating.

I changed the scales on my razor this morning and now have it looking very respectable indeed!

I think I am happy with it now, and I am going to try to resist spending any more money on the project for a while and just learn to use the damn thing !

Thanks for all the help everyone !!

Another thing one needs to assess is how acidic one's skin /sweat is to carbon steel. I don't think that is the case with the OP as it more likely would manifest as rusty fingerprints.

I have shaved a few more times successfully now. I think my lather is getting better. I am spending more time on it as well as stropping to try to perfect my technique. I have a rather strong jaw line and a bit adams apple, so I am having fun shaving them. Been trying XTG passes which are very successful on my cheeks but are really tough everywhere else. Any tips? It would be nice to get to ATG passes in not too long... I hope my razor is sharp enough for that.

Stupid question but what do you mean when you say OP?
