Thread: Any South Africa Gents out there???? Might need your help

Riaan I managed to contact a company in Kempton with agency for Norton in SA. Waiting on a price for the 4000/8000 stone and will report back when i have this. I am starting out on honing but struggling to set a bevel ( i understand this is 90% of the job) that is better than pocket knife sharp- still a lot to learn

You say you have been using this Dovo for a year, is that the razor you want to set a bevel on?
Setting a bevel is only necessary on blades that are really blunt. This is best done on a 1000 grit stone.
I have a set of Norton hones from 220 to 4000 as well as a Zulu grey stone, I find that I get great results from my Norton hones and the Zulu grey isn't going to make much difference if you are still starting out, it's really a finishing/smoothing stone, i.e.it's not going to make your razor any sharper, that is the job of the Norton hones.
I have restored and maintained a few razors and I only shave with my straight razors (for about a year now).

I bought my Norton stones from Shavenation.com, can't remember exactly what I paid for them, but it was in the region of R2500. But I did place quite a large order and remember that shipping and customs were quite expensive...

Riaan, that place was a dead-end and although i followed up they dot get a price to me. I am travelling to the US in Sept and planning to pick one up while there. Also thinking of bringing back a few razors if any of you are interested.

Were in the US are you going, maybe we can talk about getting some DE Razor and shaving soap?
