    Wink IB Smoov

Have avoided posting about my progress in learning to shave with a straight razor as it's mostly been small incremental improvements not worthy of update or mention. Each would have been, "Still cutting my face, still burns like a mother," or the like.

However, two days ago was more than a step forward, it was a leap.

I have recently acquired a restored razor from the late 19th century (the name escapes me at the moment) and had a shave on it when it came in (after a soak in isopropyl alcohol) and was unimpressed, especially since the seller had gone on and on about how it was shave ready and they myriad ways in which it got there. To say it was worse than my (actually shave ready when bought) Dovo would be inaccurate, but I did put down the new razor in favor of the Dovo for another week. Fast forward to wednesday and the world opened up like never before for me. All in all, it was a crap day for many crap ways but when it was shower time I chose the new-to-me razor on a gas and I may never go back. After stropping I showered, did my normal routine (towel, lather, towel, pre-shave oil) and started in. The hair on my face fell away without resistance, tug, pull, drag, whatever word you wanna use, it did not happen. No patch of hair was spared, upper lip, lower (scarred) lip, jaw, cheek, chin (also scarred), all came out the other side of the shave smooth as glass. Little bit of burn, but not much over all, though the new razor has a square point that made itself known with a cut that bled nicely.

This new razor and shave will be my future reference for how sharp and good a straight can be.
