    Default shavette for travel?

    Hello all,

So I have been contemplating getting a shavette for when I travel. Are there any other straight shavers here who do this and can give input? What I am really wanting to know is if the convenience of a shavette (no stropping, not worrying about rust, etc.) is worth the difference in quality of shave (if there even is a difference).

Also, I have never used a shavette or double edge-ish blades (shaved only with gilette million blade cartridges until switching to straights). Can anyone recommend a shavette and blades that are forgiving to beginners? My technique with a straight is still not perfect.

    Thanks.

Yes it's worth it and there is no forgiveness. A gentle touch is required. Skip the DE junk and opt for a Feather DX or RG. They are close to a straight in angle and feel. Be careful of their siren song, they will slowly replace your traditional straights if you are not paying attention. They are über-sharp, require zero upkeep, and can be boiled.

The Feather SS is less expensive and easier to shave with.

How is it easier if it requires a steeper angle? The RG is about the same cost as the SS without the rounded blade guard.

They are about to allow knives back on airplanes for those of you who travel frequently. Just FYI. When I travel I use one of my ebay buys that actually turned out to be a good razor. I do eventually want to try a shavette

I checked out the TSA website (can't remember the page address) and they are allowing smaller pen knives, but still no razor blades. You will still need to check them.

If I was to go with Feather, what would be a good blade? I heard Feather blades are a bit sharp for sensitive skin. What blades are good for Dovo shavettes?
