Default UK alternative to whipped dog

Hi I was just wondering what and where people reccommend buying as a first straight (not a shavette i have one already)
    But in the UK?
Whipped dog looks great but i see a lot of places are all US dollar so I was seeking advice on UK sales.

You can't go wrong with getting a straight from Steve at The Invisible Edge: Introduction to razors

He does vintage, Dovo's and TI's

Neil from The Strop Shop also does some razors but only has a couple in stock at the moment.

    Strop-Shop.Co.UK

Otherwise BST here or other forums sometimes ship to UK.

+1 on what Jody said. Also, you can look for vintage razors in antique shops, flea markets, or UK ebay. Both of those fine gentlemen offer honing at a nominal fee. Neil also restores, rescales razors if need be, not sure about Steve in that area.

The main thing is , if you're buying vintage razors, get one that looks as close to new in fullness of blade, little or no hone wear, no cracks in blade or scales, minimal if any corrosion. Once you gain more experience with what to look for you can loosen up on those parameters when you know what to look for in terms of what is restorable and what is trash.

I've not ordered from Strop Shop before but Neil has honed a few razors for me. His service is absolutely excellent.

I also like the idea of getting something from the BST classifieds on SRP. There are some very good deals to be had and the razor will of course be shave ready - check individual item description and seller feedback.

Not to hijack this thread or send it in a completely different direction, but I love the global reach this site has. For work, I have coworkers in Germany, Italy, and the UK. And I may be on the phone with someone from Canada, Brazil, or Spain on any given day. Its something I really enjoy. Cheers!

Never bought from strop shop, but +1 about invisible edge, I've bought a dovo, coticule and strop from him in the past and had no problems with any of the orders. And the last time I looked he now stocks bokers.
