    Thumbs up Hey new guy here

    Hey guys,

    I've been suffered from bad shaves for a decade now and it's gotten to the point where i want to try a straight razor. between the pain, burn, and acne traditional razors have caused i need something new. i also tried some nice electric razors but unfortunately they would start to burn my face after a while. So here I am. really lost on what to buy so if anyone can recommend something i would appreciate it. Every place i seem to look for a razor is always sold out of the ones I want too so that doesn't help.

    Hey, rmani. Welcome to the motherload of great help on the old art. There's so much here, that sometimes it helps to narrow the focus to just those things you need to learn right away - for your first shaves.     It doesn't come overnight. It isn't bloodless. But very quickly I bled less w/ a str8 than I did w/ a disposable multi-blade. Shortly thereafter - started getting the best shaves of my life. Its hard to believe, but as you'll read from most beginners - it gets so the shave is a pleasure you look forward to. I loved mine this morn. I used to shave at 6am and by 2:30-3:30 you could see the shadow coming back. Today, I shaved at 7. By 5 this evening, I'll be able to feel it, but the shadow won't yet be showing until about 8-9pm. Need I say the Mrs. really likes the shaves?

    Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm located in NJ and will update my profile.

    Even though I'm a beginner I want something nice. I was looking to spend around $150-$200. I really like the bismark razor I've found from a few sites but again they are always out of stock. I also experimented once with a disposable straight razor but it couldn't cut anything! is that normal? This is what I'm afraid of experiencing again if I buy a cheaper blade. What is the cost threshold to know you are getting something of quality that can really get a close shave?

    hey guys so i found the one i wanted. i guess maybe it just came back in stock?

    That's quite a nice razor! (And welcome to SRP!)

    Price point for something new that's of quality tends to be around the $80-$100 U.S. mark. Much or any less than that, and a new blade is likely not to be made of quality steel that will hold an edge.

    I got into straight shaving for much the same reasons. Even electric razors would bother the skin on my neck. Straights have been an unbelievable relief! Though they do take a lot more technique and there is a fair learning curve, in the end it is worth it. +1 to the advice above.
