Thread: First shave, didn't die, good times

Well.... 'first shave' is a pretty liberal interpretation of what happened. Got all lathered up, the razer kissed my face, facial hair got removed, and somehow no blood was shed... but it was pretty darn patchy and uneven. I'm generally a pretty level guy, but my hands were shaking like a boy touching his first boob.

I started with my left sideburn/cheek area (i'm lef handed so seemed like good place to start). It was patchy- i'm not going to lie. No blood so i dared to try the other side. shaky hands but cut some hair. I tried a little on my neck with no blood... but a very timid shave. At that point I realized i shouldn't push my luck and thought, "i'm still alive... good enough!"\\

I stroped it after (the whole time hoping i'm not screwing up the hone) and looking forward to my next shave. Think staring sternly in the mirror and 'willing' your hair to grow will help?

One question pops in my mind: I was trying to stretch my skin in places, but my skin was too slick with the lather and i could never get a good grab- should i just be lathering in smaller sections?

Congrats mate. Not too long and you will have as many shaves under your belt as I do.
In fact one more shave and you will have had as many as I have had.

For the skin stretching, watch a few youtube vidoes to get the idea (then let me know, cause I have no idea either)

Nice to know of your succes jax, as for the stretching, rub an alum block on your fingertips before you start shaving. It will keep your fingertips dry and allow for easy stretching with a good grip. Hope it helps.

+1 on the alum block. Congratulations on your first shave. Keep at it and before you know it the shaves will get better each time. If you have a minor setback, don't stress over it, we've all been in your shoes before, learn from it and move on. Keep us posted on your progress. BTW Jax, your metaphor in the first paragraph gave me an idea for a new thread in the conversation forum.

If you use the alum, make sure and clean your blade thoroughly afterwards. I've been told that alum on the blade can cause dark spotting and possibly corrosion.

Haha, I was the exact same way. I can't believe I didn't end up cutting myself the first time with the shaky hands. We were lucky!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Keep at it. Those hands will become more confident in time, and yes you can bet on bloodshed. My first shave I was lucky to come out with both of my ear lobes! Don't worry, the rewards will come.
