Default *First Time* using a new Dovo Ebony Spike Point

Hi I am new to the wonderful world of straight razors and I've read some interesting things over the past month before i decided to purchase one.
I was wondering if a new, already honed, straight razor from SRD would need honing before the first shave?

    Thanks for your help guys!

From SRD it will be ready to go.
For the first shave you should not even strop it.

If you do not shave with a blade (i.e. converting from electric)
invest in a half dozen yellow handle BiC razors for sensitive
skin so you can learn to lather (latherin is important) and also
get your face used to a single blade.

After that first shave with a new razor you will need to strop it smooth and slow
on a quality strop each time you shave.

Should be a good razor... I like mine enjoy yours.

Go slow. Remember your beard regrowth everyday. You'll have time enough to aim for a perfect shave. Learn by Shaving the easy parts of your face first. There's no rule saying that you can't used two different razors on one shave. Go with the grain. Go slowly.

Just a little update on how awesome this experience is!
So my first time i went for it i just did my cheeks but using my left hand was more surprising then i expected so i basically got half my face lol. overall though had a blast and was excited for my second attempt.
So what i did to practice to build comfort and confidence in my left hand was using a butter knife to see how everything would look feel and it really helped. Today i went for my second attempt and went big and did the whole face. Lets say its not perfect but went extremely smoothly and im sure soon enough ill have it mastered! I wasn't quick by no means but i didn't get into this to rush it and not enjoy it! SO yeah i'm pretty proud of my self just to say the least! I hope other newbies are doing well just as i am! Thanks for all your support guys!

There is also the point that it takes a little time for the skin on your face to get used to shaving with a straight, so go slow, it just takes a little time.
