Now just go buy a bunch more new and old from all these sights and as many hones, brushes, creams, soaps, strops, and gear you can get your hands on. Its called RAD and I have it bad.
LOL...I will give it a try and see how it goes...He seemed like a cool guy from what I read about him..
    Thanks...

Default Best leather strop/size/brand for beginners and experienced straight razor users?

Just purchased my first straight razor (Dovo best quality 5/8") What type of leather and sizes do you recommend for a leather strop and type of linen? Is wool better than the premium fabric offered on SRD website? Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure they say shave ready but still are not. Send Lynn or another hone king the Blade so you can truly see what the blade should feel like. Then buy a decent vintage blade off ebay and practicing honing on it before even attempting on the dovo. I have dulled my blade stroping wrong also it is all a big learning curve and it gets better. Trust me.

Dammit man,you can dull the blade on the strop? Wow...I bought some 4000 grit wet/dry paper and it felt like they forgot to put the grit on it,lol...I can`t even imagine 8000 grit stone,ect.ect...
I have about a 5/6 day wait till my blade from Whipped gets here so I`m going to look at other gear I might need....

Man the suspense is killing me waiting for my razor from Whipped Dog Larry...
I actually went and lathered up like I would with a S/R but ended up using a five blade disposable,lol...
But even that was way better than my Electric shaver...Oh well, just dreaming...Maybe next week sometime...

Congrats on recieving the kit, it was money well spent. I have the poor man strop kit which i got for practising and even now i love it. I still use the strop at times along with my srd natural. You may notice that the strop might be a little stiff, but dont worry, just keep rubbing it well with your palm ( while one end is attached to a hook or rod) and it will break in really well and become soft and supple. Just make sure you dont grab the other end too tight as it might cause the strop to curve/cup along a portion of its length, just grab it gently and nicely taut.
As for the balsa strop (the wooden block with the red and green compounds), use it only when your razor pulls beyond the work of stropping. I have only used the green side once about a month ago or mor (10 laps) and the edge is still shave ready, a more experienced member mught be able to comment on how to use the balsa.
And a day's woth of growth is good enough, but if yours grows slow take another day if you can, i dont wish for you to wait longer than you can, the excitement is always overwhelming
Anyways i presume the kit came with instructions so i mustve repead what you know already.
Enjoy your kit and happy shaving!
    Hal.
