I'll take the white cow. I can make a really cute brush out of her tail

I have nothing to add here, but to say that I keep my water heater set so that none of my kids get burned. In that regard I have no concerns for my shaving gear.

I quoted this only because of the reference to and electric kettle. WTH? People actually involve modern electronics to prepare for shaving the old fashioned way? What is next, solar panels powering a brush agitator to make lather?

I appreciate the lengths that guys go to to enjoy a task that others find mundane at best (shaving), but I doubt that I could ever go so far as to prepare water in a kettle, to prepare a brush, to prepare a lather, to prepare my face for a shave...turn on the tap and go, gents

I guess I should not knock it till I try it...

The water should not be boiling. I've never seen a barber use tap water, only hot towels heated in some illusory fashion.

I don't understand why a hot shave would include cold lather. Cold all around is the preference for some.

A good brush should be able to handle hot water. If the kettle gets very hot don't dip the entire brush in, only the bristles.

The fingers are not a good meter for heat, the face takes quite a bit more heat than the fingers can muster.

I have put the boars hair brush in water straight out of the electric kettle and it didn't seem to lather properly, but after it dried it seems to be just the same as it was before.
If, when you put your hand in the water, it sounds as though a six year old girl is screaming, it's too hot

The water from my tap (faucet?) is set to 60C. It seems to cope.

I just use hot water out of the tap... 134F, fill a mug toss the brush in then i let it sit while i shower after the shower the water (today) had cooled to 122F. emptied the mug, shook some water out of the brush swirled it on the Tabac puck until it was loaded moved it back to the mug whipped it into a lather.
    was good to go

I think and I am not sure because I don't have kids to worry about.. But the Kettles started around here from the fact that many of the newer hot water heaters can be set rather low for the anti-scald setting. Like I said this is only a theory..

Could be...I am just saying that I draw the line somewhere this side of plugging in extra devices to prep for prepping for my shave. It is a personal choice and has nothing to do with this thread, really

My scuttle keeps my lather really hot if I can put near boiling water in it. On the plus side I can make tea and lather at the same time. The electric kettle does both and is faster.

Honestly gents I read some of this stuff you guys write and I often wonder why any of my equipment is still in one piece after all these years

Just went and actually checked the temp of our Hot water straight from the tap, 142F or 61C I used a very good Cooks Thermometer to test it.

I soak my brushes in a sink full of that for at least 10 minutes while I take a long hot shower, then I make a lather, so far no damage to any of my brushes

If you want to know how abuse shaving equipment just ask me
I am with you I use really hot water. Feels better for me on the face when I lather. It does not burn me so I am happy.
