    Default Early Morning Blues

For whatever reason, the alarm didn't go off one morning this week. It's happened before on rare occasions. Usually because of some technical issue like I changed the time for the alarm to go off while the alarm indicator light was on, or something like that. Only, this was a morning when I had to go into the office, something I don't usually do on that particular day.

My morning started this way: My wife woke me up, saying "Didn't you have to go in this morning." Raising my head from the pillow, I looked at the clock and immediately realized I had less than 30 minutes to catch the train. I usually get up an hour and a half before the train departure, plenty of time to leisurely shower, shave, dress, check email, and hear the news and weather.

This morning I would get to do little of that routine.

Flying out of bed and into the bathroom, I was in and out of the shower in less than 3 minutes, when I had to face how am I going to lather and shave?

And, there it was, facing me - I had to go back to canned foam - goo.

I also knew, I’ve been making great progress with shaving with my SR, but, I would never have the time to make lather nor would I be able to take the appropriate time for using my SR. Lather was one thing, but then I thought, do I also go back to a disposable?

    No - anything but that!

So I shaved with my DE Safety, and my SR sat idle and unused.

Shaved, I quickly dressed and made it out the door with just enough time to make an extremely fast walk of the 1 mile from my front door to the train station.

Although I can never condone using goo in a can, you have to do what you have to do to get to work on time. Nothing wrong with using the DE Safety, I love working mine into my shaving routine. Although there is something badass about straight razor shaving. Glad you were able to make your train and get to work on time.

It's too bad you had to give up your morning calm. I would have skipped the shave myself keeping the calm. If I start my day out rattled and hurried it seems to continue that way.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I am no good at all dealing effectively with mornings on workdays. This is just one of the several reasons why I tend to shave at night before bed.

Look at it this way - the canned goo flashback will make your next properly lathered shave all the more enjoyable.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I found the panacea for that early-morning rush: RETIREMENT!!!

I think you will find that once you have shaved with a straight for a while that it really doesn't take that much longer than a DE. It's just that with the DE you can be sloppy where with the straight, there is still no room for error. Moreover, the second and third passes aren't always needed for a "passable" shave when in a hurry.

As for the canned goo... When time is not, and of the essence, I just grab a cream that's soft and throw that into the brush and face lather. It takes exactly no more time than the goo me thinks. Every man who's had to "move in a hurry" I think learns this technique lol.

All said and done, I don't think there is anything faster than a throw away in the shower though. That's why I don't keep one in the house lol - I dare not revert!!

Even in a suit and tie a day off from shaving makes you look "rugged"! Those are usually the days women will work to confirm if I am still happily married, or not!

Makes you think a little, about shaving of course.

Thats why I do my shaving at night. No rush, no one to bother me, just me and my routine fortunately (or unfortunately) My beard grows in slow so if I have a good shave the night before Im still almost BBS the next morning.

    "You get up every morning
    From your 'larm clock's warning
Take the 8:15 into the city
    There's a whistle up above
    And people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty
And if your train's on time
You can get to work by nine
And start your slaving job to get your pay"

    Sorry, I couldn't resist

I'm another fan of shaving at night, on weekdays at least, for reasons listed above. On weekends if I'm not busy I'll have a leisurely shave either late morning or early afternoon.
