Default I need a good inexpensive strope

Hello everybody. Justin Webb here from Maine USA. I just got my first shavette for christmas. I will be sending out a straight razor that was my great great grandfathers to have it polished and honed. I will be useing that razor to shave with once I get it back. Since I am a beginner still and dont want to spend big bucks, I need to know what strope I would need to keep my razor sharpe.

    Thanks for the help

    Justin

My suggestion go on amazon and look up Fromm strops. Any of the ones that have Fromm in the name will be good. They run between 33 and 40

    Leather Hanging Strops

I have the 3" wide Big Daddy Chestnut leather strop for $36.88. I like the 3" wide so I can strop back and forth rather than in an X pattern.

All of the above are great suggestions, whipped dog is pretty great pricewise I hear but the 3 inch wide is also great. I like my Fromm, pick whatever fits!

Big +1. Larry is great to deal with, he'll answer all your questions. Don't spend a lot for a strop to start with, you'll likely nick it to pieces learning how to strop. We all do.

All are great suggestions. I have a Fromm strop that I love, but I have also dealt with Larry at whippeddog alot and love his products and they are probably a little less expensive. +1 on starting with a cheap one first. If its within your budget you may want to just go ahead and order 2. If you nick the first one up and ruin it you will have a backup. If you dont nick it, you can always paste that second strop later on down the road.
