I think I might also benefit from just focusing on the shaving and not on honing to begin with. I'm having a case of wanting to learn everything at the same time.

I did the exact same thing you did. Had my razor 2 days and dinged it on the faucet. I could feel a tiny tiny ding in the blade. I shaved with it anyway and didn't have any problems at all although it did scratch my strop just a little as I strop. Finally for no other reason than it bothered me just knowing it was there, I decided to put it on my Norton just enough do file the little burr I could feel down. I did that and now my blade is much duller that it was before I put it on the stone. It may be time for me to try my hand at honing now since I have accumulated a couple more razors and see what happens. I know your aggravation though.

Since you have the norton look at the janorton threads and start there

wet towels and sponges are ok but i like running water!
invest in a new faucet a tall model that hangs into bowl a wy from the sides some of them even swiel like a kitchen sink faucet... they are easy to install but the woman might then think it is time to redo the whole bathroom, a risk worth taking though

I will do my best to stay true to my learn-one-thing-at-a-time way of doing it. I like the idea with a sponge or towel, I wish I would have known of that sooner.

I dinged a Hart razor early on, and was able to feel it as you described. It's no big deal and you will see how easy it is to hone it out. There will be no evidence of a ding and, if honed correctly, the razor will continue to shave just fine. Good thing is you will probably never do it again. The only time I use a towel to wipe the blade is when I am shaving super early in the morning and my wife is still asleep, as I try to make as little noise as possible. Otherwise, I just rinse the blade. Good luck!

If you really don't want to rehone you could try the razor and judge the results for yourself. I have an old W&B that still has a small chip in the edge that hasn't been honed out yet. I use it mainly to try out different honing and stropping technique. Maybe I just have a really tough mug as I haven't suffered injury from it!
