You know Chugach68, I did the exact same thing as you, purchasing a cheapo shavette from Sally's Beauty Supply. I think that shavette hated me. I dang near gave up the idea of SR shaving until my wife gave me my first Dovo 6/8. After reading the posts on this subject, I thought of that shavette (which I still have) and I have concluded that I am terrified of that blasted thing!! :-)

After getting str8s and using them for a while I decided to give the shavette another try and with the techniques I learned I was able to get a really good shave with it. I use it every so often when I want to mix things up. That along with my str8s and a couple of de razors I can keep those wiskers guessing at what weapon I am going to use to DESTROY them!!! No matter what I use I still enjoy it a lot more than the fusion and canned goo I used to use.

Tried it again and still don't enjoy the shavette. Back to my straights.

My goodness I am really in trouble. Sometimes I shave with a DE (often use one to cleanup after a bad straight shave). It's easier and, in my case, I get a much better shave all the way around, closeness, irritation, speed. But I love the challenge of a straight, so most of the time I go with one. Does this mean I am out of the club also?

Yea, sure, but by next week your curiosity over why you like the shaves better will get to you and you'll be trolling the honing and stropping forums searching for the true, traditional answer to the old age shaving question.

It's all simply about the edge.

Truth be told, I already am. Have started improving the edge and am ever hopeful that a breakthrough will come soon.

An interesting thread and I have to tell you I'm tempted to pull out my Parker and snap a Feather or an Astra Blue....and then I catch myself.

But it reminds you that some of us try to learn what is already a challenging task with a system that can unforgiving....

And +1 on the Feather system, it's what I use for travel (checked bags) and many days when I'm pressed for time.

In the end they are all Straights...$$$ should not separate us in to camps....

Happy Shaving...with whatever edge you choose...
