Default Howdy everybody and need some advice!

Read the post on "getting started", great info. Gonna start using the straight razor...
I have a razor that my father had and would like to see what you guys know about it.
From the getting started article, I should get this professionally honed for the first shave. Will look for a shop here to do that.
Your thoughts and expertise would be appreciated.

With my limited experience I would say see if you can find any members in your area of Reno! I am in Minnesota and the members around here have been a great help and have helped me with my restoration as well as honing. That would be my first suggestion otherwise look into the services area and see about honing to shave ready. The guys there charge decent rates and you can see that others have been happy with the work. As well as how they treat the razors. My 2 cents!

    Hey, TP.

Bravo on diving in. This particular razor will need a little restorative grinding before honing will be possible. Note how the edge is above the shoulder height. To hone, it needs that shoulder ground back so the edge sticks out below that heel area. In the short-term, it might be more cost effective to buy something modest, but shave-ready. You could then have your ancestor's blade restored.

    Thanks guys,
I think your right about a new razor, this one will take some work.
Can you offer any info on the razor's age?
Just wondering for the display box I keep with other family items.

On the hunt for a razor.....
