    Default Razor fever!

Okay vets, I'm looking to purchase a second straight. I've had great success with my starter from whippeddog.com, but want something that is nicer to look at. I know, the look isn't everything, but I would just like to have something better looking that I can hopefully pass on one day (if/when I have a family since I'm only 24). The one I'm looking at is from Vintage Straight Razor, and I'd like to know: 1. if it's a good deal for the item, 2. if the item is truly what they say it is (since I have little experience in purchasing straights). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

*Side note: I like the black and white marbling pattern, but they also have one that is pure white bone. Thanks in advance!

I just got into straight razors about 8 months now, I think the Revisors are awesome blades. I own three of them now. You go to there website pick out what you want, order it, pay with Paypal and in a few days it's in your hands. The styles are very nice. Anyway my two cents.

Run away! Run away! Go to the search box and type in razors to avoid first, then go from there. Honestly, stay away from that site, most of their stuff is made in china, thaiwan, pakistan; they just sell a lot of crap razors. Go to the classifieds and look, lots of nice restored vintage blades, or go Dovo,TI, Boker, or Revisor.

I suggest either a new shave ready razor such as a Dovo, Boker, TI, etc. from a seller having a strong reputation for selling quality and service or a vintage pristine shave ready razor from the classified section. Generally, a razor made in Sheffield, Soligen, Spain, France, or the USA in good condition will be OK. Geometry, metallurgy, and heat treatment quality are all critically important to performance. Adding fancy scales, gold wash or etching to a razor shaped piece of metal will not make it shave or become a valued heirloom. Classified section prices of respected name vintage razors in good condition from the era when everyone shaved with a straight can be very reasonable.

Thanks! I've been browsing the classifieds, and there are many nice razors there. Thank you again for saving me money on a crap product. : )

Don't fret, I almost got suckered by the $60 "damascus in horn" razor til I accidentally stumbled onto the razors to avoid page; heck I wasn't even a member then and these folks had already saved me a huge headache. I will state, that it was when I was looking for my first straight, so I was flying blind on cost and name brand quality

Decide on your budget and either get something vintage and quality from our classifieds or go with one of our fine vendors and get a Dovo or TI new. If you can't decide with a new one call the vendor. Most would love to talk to you and give you advice before buying.
