Thread: 1st shave, not good

Feel really dis-heartened, felt like the blade wasn't sharp enough, don't know if it was me or the blade (prolly me) being honest, if the "beginners kit" hadn't cost €90 I would have binned it.
I live in Germany and bought a Razzoor kit from korium.de

I have NO idea what your kit is or if it is shave ready, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be patient. This is not something you can be a pro at on the first go...and honestly if it were that way, no one would probably appreciate it as much as they do once you invest in yourself and your skill set to LEARN how to get the good and eventually GREAT results.

I promise, it gets better.

Please read the FAQs here and read up on how to get started. It really is best to start small and work up to a full shave. There will be frustrations, and like all things worth doing, it is not easy

Looks like the razor is the problem,,, From what I see and what Google Translate tells me you bought a "Shogun Special" razor ie: Sounds like the Brothers Paki & Stan to me, but we have plenty of German members on SRP and even more in EU to tell you what you have much better then I can..

Personally I would return the whole mess and start with Recognized names, at least for the razor... If you want new stuff look for Dovo, Thiers Issard, Wacker, Revisor, Boker are the names that come to mind ATM...

Those kit deals unless they are from well recognized vendors on the razor forums are mostly junk...

Thanks for the support. To be honest I am really reluctant to spend even more, the kit wasn't exactly expensive but it wasn't cheap either. But it think I might have to. I know you guys know what you are talking about and I value your opinions.

Rasurpur.de - Ihre Adresse für die Messerrasur is a pretty respected vender and has alot of nice stuff, including some vintage things. Look in the classifieds as well, there are very nice razors for less than what you paid usually for sale from members so you know they will be sharp like they should be. Like they guys here have said don't get discouraged, you're unlearning years maybe decades (I don't know how old you are) of bad shaving habits, AND trying to build new ones. Take it slow and be patient, it does get better every shave w/ a good blade I should say.

Thank for the reply. I am 45 years old by the way. The blade really felt like I was tearing the hair from my face. I have just emailed the place I bought the kit. Lets see if they give me at least a discount on something like a Dovo

Yeah that edge was not "shave ready" in the sense of a true shave. When you get a blade that has been professionally honed, you're going to be like "holy crap that's sharp AND smooth!", it will be like night and day I gurantee it.

I have seen some websites trying to convince their customers that when the blade feels dull and their face turns red, it's because their shaving technique is off. I have learned the hard way that when the blade feels dull, it most likely is. This does not mean that the technique won't get better of course.

By the way, even getting a good DOVO blade does not mean that it will arrive ready to shave, but it probably would be much better than what you have. Dovo Best quality has a superb blade for the price, but it often needs some prep before shaving depending on where you buy it. If you get it from Straight Razor Designs (or later send it to those guys for honing), then I would feel pretty safe that it should arrive shave ready.

stick with it. Sell and find a new one. I bought a 360 dollar razor with my first purchase was amazing but ended up buying another razor (due to im on deployment and straight razors are a no no) so I bought a Waki and selling my Dovo i used a whole 3 times.

I did the same thing and bought the Brothers Paki & Stans razor kit when i started. I was going to give up after wasting some money on crap. I found a vintage razor at a fleamarket and had it honed up. Dont give up! Get a affordable Vintage razor thats shave ready from our Classifieds.
