    Default newbie with questions

I was looking at getting a sr and have been reading the info on here for some time. You guys have me confinced this is the way to go. I was wondering if you can tell me a little about wipped dog razors. Are they a good deal for a guy with very little cash and are they good dependable razors? Thank you all for your time

Welcome to SRP. I personally have not purchased from Larry at whippeddog, but I've heard good things from those who have. You may want to check out the classifieds here, currently there are a few entry-level priced razors for sale. Check out the Vendor's Corner as well, just stay away from the bay until you gain some experience on what to look for in razor. There are some members who do not recommend buying sight unseen, so you have to take all advice and then weigh your options and decide which course you want to take. Keep us posted and best of luck on beginning your new hobby/addiction.

Larry is a good guy, he will answer any questions you have. However, sight unseen is sight unseen. The razors are cleaned (sanitation wise) and sharpened, that's it. Like rearedensteel said, a lot of positive things said about Larry, but there are also good restored entry priced razors in the vendors section as well. If you haven't gotten a strop, soap, or brush, then one of the package deals at SRD, or vintagelbadesllc.com, and classichsaving.com can save you money on your entire start up, and all come honed by pros.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

+1 for what tiddle and ReardenSteel said. Larry is a very good guy, and very approachable. In addition to his 'sight unseen' deal there is also the 'sight half-seen' deal in which you get a brief description of the razor. I'd highly suggest checking it out as well as the other vendors mentioned.

Happy hunting, and let us know what you end up with!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Check out this in the SRP Wiki. It's great advice from experience. It helped me a lot when buying razors. Larry is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. Welcome and have fun!
