Question New to the straight razor!

Hi all, I'm new to the whole straight razor shaving an Ijust bought my first one on eBay. Needs some touching up with some honing. Problem is I'm on a small budget and have no hones. I have been looking at some welsh slate hones, they are really cheap but has anyone got these and how are they? Looked at loads of videos but can't find any on welsh slate.

    Thanks

Sorry forgot to state that i live in the United Kingdom if anyone is willing to help!

Welcome to SRP. The fun is just beginning. If you PM me we can arrange to get your razor shave ready for just the cost of postage. Learning to hone while learning to shave greatly increases the difficulty factor but it can be done.

Read the stickies in read at the top of this board.

    Read through the Wiki.

Start learning to strop cause it will determine how good your second shave will be and it is a skill which takes some practice.

your best bet is to send it to someone on this website to hone for you, in classifieds, member services. Then you will know what "shave ready" means. From there, get a few shaves in and maybe another razor from here, before even thinking about honing a razor, otherwise you may end up very discouraged. You need more than just the welsh slate to sharpen it. Not as easy as it sounds. But if you stick with it, you will eventually get a real good shave, does take time, but worth it.

Certainly there is someone in the UK willing to help. You should post your location at least in your profile. There are a few good members with talent outside the USA.......I think.
