    Exclamation Razor help

Hey I'm currently deployed and I looking to get everything I need to start shaving with a straight razor. Can I get some help on where I can get a really good kit and mean with everything to get the job done and maintaine the razor for under 350.00. Can anybody help me out? I have a buddy here that uses one back in the states and he said dovo is a good brand.

Thanks for y'alls help, Ssgt Jordan John

Welcome, Sarge . You can do it for that. Don't rule out a vintage blade. Lots of different things you can do.
Check out the classifieds here. Give a shout if you need help.
Thanks for your service, as well

Well there's really no single answer for that, I'd stick to sites that do their own in-house honing like straightrazordesigns or invisible edge, as factory edges are typically less than spectacular.

If you want the full deal, you'll need the razor, a strop (I'd recommend SRD's wool for the backside, brush, mug/bowl and soap or cream. If you expect to be in a dry climate pack some glycerin as well, it'll help keep your lather from drying out.

As for the particular brand of razor, dovo & TI have excellent razors in your price range. You might also consider a sight unseen deal from whipped dog. It'll be a vintage razor, not fully restored but properly honed and capable of shaving quite well.

As a backup, since you're starting out, I'd recommend a second razor as a backup in case you ding or improperly strop the first. Something suitable for that could be a feather artist club or a shavette as they both use disposable blades. I do enjoy using my feather, but my real straights see the most use.

Edit: wow, 3 other replies in the time it took me to type that....
