So many posts on disinfecting razors etc. I'm beginning to think

Agreed, Is there a practical way to disinfect a straight razor at home with out ruining the edge? None that I know of

Barbicide or a 30-second dip in bleach would be simplest I suppose

If it is a eBay razor or similar I would be more concerned about what is stuck inside the scales. The steel would be the least of your concerns.

Very good point. I routinely descale the ebay specials and also make sure the scales have been degreased and clean out. Barbicide is probably your best bet. Alcohol can damage celluloid scales (the smell is interesting, too). Bleach can bleach out the colors.

SWMBO? I've heard that a few times today. What's it stand for? Anyway, bacteria and viruses can't actually live on metal or any hard surface. They can only survive in the fine layer of grease that sometimes accumulates on them. On a clean, hard surface, bacteria will die very quickly.
