Default The Triple Nick - bad shaving days

So I had a pretty terrible shave the other day and it got me wondering how bad a shave could possibly be. I managed to first nick my strop (not badly, but frustrating nonetheless), I then proceeded to shave (decent shave, I did NOT nick my face), and as I was finishing up, I hit my razor on my shaving mug and got a nick in my edge. So I managed to complete 2 of the three nicks in one shave. Very frustrating!

So as I said, that got me wondering what kind of bad shaves others have had and how you've recovered. Bad shaves are quite demoralizing, but getting your next good shave in after a bad one is always a big confidence booster. You just gotta get back on that horse - there's sometimes nowhere else to go but up!! So has anyone done it, the Triple Nick (strop, face, blade)???

No tripple nick, but I managed a double nick (face and strop) and rolled an edge when stropping after, does that come close to counting?

Haha, yea. I'd say that comes pretty close. That's about a 2.75!!

I'm not sure which is the worst of the three, it's close between face and edge, but I think edge is the worst.

Working on the trifecta? You better check the razor out and see if it needs honed, the strop can probably be fixed if the nick is just a flap of leather superglue it back down evenly with the rest of the material. Dont be afraid to go slower and more methodical, most of this is muscle memory, train them in the way they should go and they will serve you well.

Ooooh, that's rough Unit! Oh well, they heal!

Nun2sharp, I actually just honed out the little nick last night. It was right at the very toe of my square point, and it wasn't really a nick, it was more like the very edge just bent over a bit. So it honed out well, I'm happy to say. And the nick in the strop wasn't bad, I just took a pumice stone to it. I've been good with not nicking my strop for a while now, so that one was kind of disappointing to see. Overall, it was just a terrible shave, I'm glad it's behind me!

I had a nice cut on my jawline from accidentally stopping the blade without first lifting off the other day. It didn't bleed much though. Also managed a case of temporary insanity and looked up while rinsing the razor & tapped the faucet. It was so light I didn't hear it & wasn't certain I did until I saw the nick in the blade when I was done.

Oh well, it and my other razor are both in Lynn's hands now, so they'll both be ready to go when I get them back.

Sorry Zephyr!!! At least I know it happens to all of us every once in a while!

Nicking the razor is the worst feeling. Just did it for the first time the other day, and I was a broken man for a few hours. Luckily I got some sleep and some tips from Zephyr and honed it out pretty well. But I tell ya, I am going to be much more careful now. I never want to see a nick in my razor again. Worst part is, that is my only shave ready razor right now, so I was even more upset when I thought about possibly sending it out for a honing. I wouldn't have had a razor for a while!!!
