    Default I've created a monster...

    Hello All,

After my first professional shave, I just had to get a straight razor. It arrived today shave ready (Thiers-Issard), and I am jumped in without hesitation. Ouch: blood within 2 seconds; this is taking forever; so long I have to re-lather; another nick; dry again...re-lather; I cannot get under my nose; 35 minutes later: will this ever end? I am hooked!!! This is not a great shave, in fact it is fairly rough. Some areas seem to have eluded the razor completely while other areas are smooth as silk. The learning curve seems pretty ghastly, and yet I'm checking my bank account because I want more razors. Tell me guys, does the addiction ever end?

No. And it seems this link may keep you engaged.

It's many faceted. You can get sucked into any or all of the facets. We're all here to talk about it with you. This is a safe place.

Hi Frank & welcome to the group.
No, the addiction never ends as it takes too many razors to satisfy all the brain receptors but the bleeding should stop fairly soon.
You shouldn't really attempt a full shave yet but you know that now .

Just some advice. Blood & steel = rust. Long periods of exposure to water & steel also = rust. No worries with long shaves. Just wipe the blade dry between passes. As for the blood. Best to avoid cutting yourself but avoid shaving over blood to save your edge.
    G'luck on the next shave.

    Hi Frank

Welcome and I am afraid there is no cure now that the hook is set. Slow down a bit and try to do what it says in the shave wiki First straight razor shave - Straight Razor Place Wiki . That really pays off in the long run. It took me almost 4 months to get to the point where I am getting satisfied with the shaves. I am still slow and still get a little blood flow going here and there too. Between starting and now I did manage to get about 8 razors total so far, again you are pretty much doomed. Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the forums!! Remember to have patience and a styptic pencil handy!! I remember my first shave with a straight razor, my second pass I made a half moon cut on my face, it bleed for awhile. Also, try not to do your face at one time just with a straight razor. Try doing left and right cheeks then, switch back to your regular razor for the rest of your shave. As you get accustom to the straight razor then, you can start shaving more of your face with a straight razor.
