    Default My first straight razor...

    Well, I finally took the plunge and purchased my first straight razor. I have attached some pictures. I think that this will make me a good first razor as I learn the intricacies of stropping, honing, and maintenance. It is listed as a R.Schlag Extra Fine. I have attached some pictures for your pleasure. Any input would be appreciated.

    Don't have it yet...
    Supposed to be shave ready...
    I think that the strop and razor will be here by Thurs...

    That looks very nice. It looks like it has the slightest smile near the toe, which would be good if you're new to shaving with a straight. Make sure you know if it's shave ready or not, and if it's not, get it honed by someone who knows how. If it's not shave ready it really will be quite irritating to try and shave with it.

    If it IS shave ready, don't strop it before the first shave, but strop before and maybe after each subsequent shave. I strop 30/70 (canvas/leather) before and 10/10 after, but others have different routines. If it's shave ready and you take it nice and easy with the stropping (i.e. slow, careful) you won't have to think about honing for a little while. And you can take this time to work out if you want to maintain your own razor or send it out to get it honed. I like to maintain my own, and have found it really very achievable; and it adds to the whole 'hobby'...

    I hope you have fun with your first straight shave, you'll find it quite exhilarating...

    That does look like a nice razor. Congrats, I'm still learning myself but I love it. Take your time learning and enjoy
