Thread: From what site should I get my first razor set?

Hi, I'm a newbie of newbies who has not even purchased his razor (set) yet.

Since I live in South Korea, and gas price here is much more ridiculous than that of America, there is no way that I would be able to get a decent razor set for decent price from Korean vendors.

Therefore, I decided to order my first razor set from an American retailer, but it's just that there are too many of them.

Could you guys recommend me a website which has the good *cough*lowest*cough* price for razor set with a rocket-fast international delivery? (I need to get 'em before July 24th, the day when my military service starts)

P.S: I don't really know about that Whipped Dog website because it seems to me that the shop owner would take longer to prepare my order and send it than other retailers. If I'm wrong, then correct me so!

I can only recommend the sites that everyone in the know recommends, however zi have never had anything delivered from any of them except Classic shaving.com. It took as long as I expected to arrive (a 12k hone). Whippeddog.com is one of those sites recommended and also Straight razor designs.com. I would expect you could pay a little extra for priority delivery to South Korea...Hell, you could probably get it sent to you in North Korea if you asked nicely .

You could also look in the classified here... There are some retty good deals.

You don't really, really need soap and brush, but you should...a proper shaving soap or cream gives much better lather with glide and protection you won't find in any can, and of course the scent and pleasurenof whipping upna good lather

You can of course get some brushless cream, then you don't need a brush

Well you only 'need' a razor. I don't know what other "extraneous stuff" you might be thinking of. You don't need a strop. You can just use a bit of folded up newspaper or your belt. You don't need a brush.
A brush does a better job of setting up your stubble for a clean shave. No you don't need it, but you will appreciate having one all the same. You said you're in the military (or planning to join)...All you need is a canteen cup and a disposable razor. That's all we ever used. No soap. Soap leaves a scent, and a scent is undesirable when you're in the field. That cut-throat might be the cause of the enemy receiving a morse code message saying "shoot me", as it reflects the sunlight and gives away your position. Are you wanting to try this style of shaving for it's benefits or is it just, as I hear many Americans saying, for the "bad-ass" manliness of it all?
I'm not trying to put you off, but I'm getting a bit cynical in my old age and might be just reading your questions of "need" the wrong way. If that's the case, my apologies. If it isn't the case, cups canteen and a bic disposable will do the job well enough for a young G.R.U.N.T.

What I would look at is the CJB Blade Handle made right there in Korea . It's a clone of the Feather Artist Club at a fraction of the cost. Takes the Feather Proguard and the others artist club like blades. You won't need a strop or hone and for the military it's 1or 2 passes and you have an acceptable or BBS shave!

Ps. Brush... Your in the army! Hand lather. Just take a cream and lather it in your hands like you were washing them. Then apply with your fingers and face lather with the fingers. Works fine.

I would like to suggest that you do not buy a dirt cheap "no name" brand of razor. I did this with a "value starter set" from a website that I will not mention. Anyway, the shave with the razor was horrible! Hurt and was not pleasant at all. I found "straight razor designs . com" emailed Lynn a few times back a forth and decided to invest in a better quality strop and razor, I got the Dovo best quality (student and tight on money). It shaved way better than the piece of junk that I had originally bought. Buy whatever is appealing to you, but I just wanted to mention that the $50 all in one set (brush, strop, razor, bowl, and soap) was not a value to me. Of course there are some starter sets that have great quality stuff in them, just be cautious because some of the sets are sub par from my experience.
