Funny you should specifically mention Zen. Like many straight razor shavers, my friends and coworkers are convinced I've gone completely around the bend, especially when I mention the Zen quality of straight shaving. Certainly there are a couple dozen things to think about when shaving with a straight but my best shaves always seem to result in being aware of all of those things (stropping, blade angle, pressure, grain of the whiskers etc.) while simulataneously just relaxing and letting the shave be what it is. Rest assured you'll only become more adicted with practice. Cheers and good shaving! Your handle, Cracker, is rather strange for an Aussie, the term is used here for natives of Florida and Georgia. Supposedly the term goes back to the days of open range cattle grazing when (in the absence of fences) cattle were contained in a specific area by men on horseback with whips cracking (i.e. Crackers)

I'm sure it will be fine! However all blades vary it seems, even when coming out of the same factory! Get it looked at and honed as soon as you get it in the post.
