Thread: First cut, and a nice one!

So I've joined the first cut club. I've had a couple minor nicks before, but nothing I would consider a 'cut'. Well, today, I received my first legit cut. I was just finishing up my first and only pass (I'm only doing one WTG as I'm getting comfortable), just finishing up the left side of my upper lip. As I went to bring the razor down to rinse the blade, I pretty much put the blade directly on my chin!! Not good!! It was stupid and careless obviously. I think I was getting a little cocky with how well this shave was going. And then bam, right at the very end, I put a nice half inch slice diagonally on my chin.

I'd take pictures, but I'm at work now, and it's already closing up pretty nicely, so they wouldn't be much to look at anyway. I'm just glad I cut it clean and didn't dig any flesh out. I think it will heal up fine, maybe have a very light, faint scar there, but nothing to worry about - I'm not that good looking in the first place!!

Glad you will be ok. We have all had a first cut and many have had seconds and thirds as well. I am sure a lot of ear lobes have been nicked as our learning curves expand. Eternal vigilance is key when that razor blade is on or even very near to

Not to mention stropping. I managed to loose my grip a couple of years ago, sending my razor spinning through the air, slicing my finger to the bone before crashing to the floor and picking up a nasty chip. That has been my worst cut... so far. And yes - welcome to the club!

Glad it's nothing serous, keep her moist with some antibiotic ointment for the next week while she heals will help to keep down any scaring.
Also be careful while shaving that area doing this time.

Keep at it once you get a little cocky she'll put you right back into check.

There will be times when one will get nicked or cut. This is most likely to occur with me when I am tired, in a hurry, or I let my attension wander. If the straight shave is not going well, I switch to my DE until another day. I have learned not to attempt certain strokes from certain directions because the risk of getting a slice is too high. One time, I administered a "Heidelburg" slice about 2.5 inches long vertical on my left cheek next to my nose. Fortunately, the slice was clean, shallow, and left no lasting scar. Pay attention to all moving body parts while the razor is open. I jambed my left middle finger knuckle onto the edge of my 7/8 Friodur which was being held in my right hand. Again a clean slice with no lasting damage. I can shave well with a DE but it amazes me that I get low or no skin irritation using my straights compared to my DE, but I may get nicks or slices larger than any I could ever get using my DE.

Hey, if you're lucky you'll end up w/the Indiana Jones chin scar. Chicks dig scars. trust me.

Yea, Shea - I agree. I normally shave at night, just because I have more leeway to take my time and relax. And I also go to the gym a few mornings per week (don't want to deal with shaving at the gym obviously) and I think I'm more awake and aware when I shave at night. This was the first time I shaved in the early morning, so I may not have been as focused as normal. But oh well, it's a learning experience! Just glad I didn't lose an ear instead!

I like hearing these cut stories though, makes me know I'm not the only one!!

Welcome to the club. He who has not cut has not shaved.

It probably was not carelessness on your part as much as trying to think and shave at the same time.

Eventually you will just have to show up and let your hands do the work. You're gaining proficiency with every shave.

I've had a few but not lately. I used to get cut in front of my ear lobe but became extra careful around there. Some of my closest calls have been nearly cutting my stretching hand. Real close but thankfully no cigar.

Wait til you cut your ear!!

The cuts on the face really aren't the problem, it's dealing with the scabs and making sure that you don't hit the cut again as you'll start all over again!

Gee, how would I know that??
