    Good afternoon,

I was wondering what type of razor and where could I get one for someone brand new to shaving. I've used the disposable and 3 blade razors, but I want to shave with a straight razor. Thanks for your help.

Many vendors offer starter kits. Straight Razor Designs is a good place to start looking.

Welcome to SRP! Yes, SRD is a good place to acquire new shave ready straight razors. Since you are located in Japan there may be suppliers more local to you but I am sure SRD will ship to Japan. There is a forum for people in Japan here on SRP. Here's the link: Japan
You may want to also post this request for information in that forum for more local options if that is your goal but I really don't think you can find a better supplier of quality gear for reasonable prices or a more helpful staff than Straight Razor Designs. Good luck.

+1 to SRD, but also I can't not to recommend Straight Razor supplies by The Classic Edge Shaving Store
They also have starting kits and free second honing

The most important thing you can do , right now , is to read as much as you can about straight razors , and their use , before you buy , or try using a straight razor . There are many options to chose from , and you need to know what exactly it is that you prefer . For starters , you will need a shave-ready razor , and a strop .

    Hi friend,
I got my new goodies at SRD. Lynn and Don are awesome and Lynn is the guy that started this fine site! You can't find much more experience and willingness to help than those two guys! I started with a Dovo 6/8 Best Quality and an SRD Latigo 3" Strop. I love them. I don't have too much to compare them to, but so far, so good. +1 for dave5225, read all you can, and ask questions too. The seniors know tons and are very willing to help! Good luck, and take it slow!
P.S. Don't forget to watch tons of videos!

+1 to SRD, I purchased the Dovo Special 6/8 and really like it. It came shave ready and had a nice sharp feel to it. The razor and strop combo is really nice. I have done extensive internet searches for razors, soap, strops, etc and SRD has about the best prices and great customer service.
