    I'm a newbie as well, but I resolved never to rinse the blade off. I keep a wet sponge on the sink, and then wipe the blade against the sponge, backward as if I were stropping it. Going forward just cuts up the sponge.

    One benefit is that I don't have to keep water running, which is wasteful as well as noisy.

    I keep the warm wet towel that I used on my face on my shoulder to wipe the blade on (backwards of course)
