Thread: Paddle vs regular strop

Greetings shavers!

In my enthousiasm when starting I acquired a paddle strop with a leather side and a green paste side.. Now this has 2 issues that I can figure out, ofcourse it misses the flexibility of a regular strop and it misses a canvas/linnen side.

Now I have 2 questions:
1: Is there a major difference between the two? If so which is considered better (even if this might be personal)?
2: Is it a necessity to have the canvas/linnen side?

Please keep in mind that some answers might result in firing up my AD!

I have been using just leather for a little while now and it's working well for me.

All I've ever used is a paddle, in fact mine is just a 3"x11" strip of black latigo glued on a 1"x3" board. It works perfectly and I've also never used linen.

I have never used a paddle strop. I'd be interested in knowing what someone who has used both hanging strops and paddle strops thinks of them. A paddle would be nice for traveling.

I've used both an SRD 2" latigo and the SRD paddle strop and prefer the paddle strop mainly because I can sit down while stropping razors in my lap. Besides that, it's also very portable and the modular pads are genius.

preference really.... I like a hanging strop. When I use a paddle, I have the tendancy to be heavy handed... I do own a paddle for travel though.

I use the SRD Modular Paddle with the Bridle leather pad. I find it works great, and you can sit at your desk and use it comfortably.

I have discontinued linen because it seemed to be too aggressive on edges. I only use leather now.
